Greetings,
Playstation is currently building a secret “cold storage” vault located inside a set of mineshafts to store tons of data tapes which includes art, assets, and codes from its games. Only a select few individuals will be able to have access.
What is happening and why are they doing this? Well the reason behind it is to preserve the past for the future. The only people allowed access is are the IP Preservation Team along with a few members of their IT Department.
The way all this works is that they have 2 different “staging vaults” with one located in Las Vegas and another in Liverpool. They both feature fast SSD Storage where the developers can upload their files. From there that information then gets transferred to tape backups and then to the actual vault in an undisclosed location.
So far over 200 million files and roughly 650 TB of data have been preserved. This all includes everything from the latest PS5 build to PS1’s 1994 Arc the Lad game. Currently there are no public plans on what else they plan to do with all this except to insure its survival.
