R.E.D. Friday

Rebel11Six’s Office~R.E.D. Friday is a symbolic day of the week to show support for those service members overseas that stands for Remember Everyone Deployed. Nobody knows exactly who created Red Friday’s, but we do know it was created in the early 2000’s after the attack on September 11th to show support for those deployed in Afghan and Iraq. The main thing people can remember is that an e-mail chain was created after the attacks that talked about Red Fridays, however nobody knows if it was big enough to credit the beginning of Red Fridays. A portion of the e-mail reads:

“The Americans who support our troops are the silent majority. We are not “organized” to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. … Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday, and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every RED-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

“If every one of our memberships shares this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED – and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear RED!”

The idea behind it is that Red is symbolic to Courage, Bravery, and the sacrifices made by soldiers. On Fridays people wear something Red whether it’s a red hat, a red scarf, or even a Red Friday t-shirt to show support to the troops overseas.

Red Fridays was reintroduced to the public by a U.S. Veteran named Lloyd “Doc” Hofmeister, who opened a website (redshirtfridays.org) which has now been taken down. The idea was to show support to the troops so they can feel proud of what they do and know that we all back home are remembering everyone deployed.

From then on R.E.D. Fridays became a popular way in the U.S. for individuals, families, friends, and communities to come together and show support to those deployed. The tradition is symbolic for those to show the deep appreciation and respect that the people have for the military and a reminder of the sacrifices that they make everyday for their country.
